A strong commitment by the European agricultural machinery industry was made to reduce the total annual number of on-road accidents involving agricultural machinery by 50%. CEMA called all involved stakeholders to join this initiative, European Commission, Member States' representatives and European interest groups.

To turn such a commitment into reality, it is a must to use the available budget from machinery users and governments as efficient as possible. Therefore, the right causes must be identified,  prioritised and made subject to a cost-benefit analysis. This exercise must take into account  all areas including product design, the use phase, maintenance, user skills, etc.

CEMA calls to set-up a new group under the lead of the Automotive Unit (DG GROW),  that works under the right procedures to achieve that goal. In order to have the proper set of procedures to collect and analyse data and present suitable measures, a dedicated CEMA project team is working out use cases to test these procedures and if necessary propose changes.

A first draft set of procedures and general rules for such a new group and the worked out use cases will be forwarded for presentation at the upcoming Working Group on Agricultural Tractors, WGAT on 15 March.
