Call for transnational research projects on ICT-enabled agri-food systems

ICT agri

The ERA-NET Cofund ICT-AGRI-FOOD project has launched a pre-announcement Call addressing the challenge of transforming the European agri-food systems into sustainable, resilient, transparent and fair systems that are enabled by digital technologies providing solutions and offering transparency. Objective of this transformation is to allow all actors in the value added chain and also policy makers and authorities to take smarter, healthier, fair and eco-friendly decisions in their activities in agri-food systems.

The 29 funding organizations from 22 countries, together with the European Commission, prepared a budget of > 20 million euros for a joint call under the ERA-NET ICT-AGRI-FOOD. The call is aimed at researchers and engineers and by extension all actors from the entire agri-food chain: farmers, processors, the distribution chain, consumers and the public sector. Via a multi-actor approach, the future consortium must consider data from the entire food chain (environmental impact, origin, nutritional value, safety, integrity, etc.) and digital technological solutions (such as remote and local sensing, data analytics, Big Data technologies, AI, IoT, automation and robotics, etc.) to make our agri-food systems more sustainable and more resilient. You can find out all the information you need about the call and more on ICT-AGRI-FOOD new website at www.ictagrifood.eu!

ERA-NET Cofund on ICT-enabled agri-food systems

The overall objective of “ICT-enabled agri-food systems” is strengthening the cooperation in research, development and innovation between EU Member and associated States to foster, verifiably and perceptibly, the use of smart digital technology to make European food systems more sustainable, resilient and secure.

With financial support of the European Commission (EC), the ICT-AGRI-FOOD project will organise and fund joint calls for transnational research projects on an annual basis. The project will contribute to introducing and exploring digital technology that enhances the sustainability of the agri-food sector to the benefit of our and future generations. Beyond co-funded calls, other joint activities in this thematic area will be implemented, thus contributing to the establishment of a fair and societally accepted bioeconomy in the EU and beyond.
