On 31st October the EU and US delegations have issued a joint statement announcing their intention to suspend their steel & aluminium trade dispute.
After the United States announced that they will partly remove Section 232 tariffs on EU steel and aluminium exports up to past trade volumes, the European Union said it will also take the steps to suspend its rebalancing measures against the United States. The EU will keep the suspension under review in light of new developments, for instance developments that could deteriorate the situation for EU exports subject to the U.S. Section 232 steel and aluminium measures. The two parties agreed to resort to arbitrations for their WTO disputes.
CEMA welcomes this outcome, which it had called for in this joint statement ahead of the G20 meeting.
