The IoT Week is a major event focused on technology; convened annually, it brings together different innovators, stakeholders and investors in the domain, with the goal of fostering discussion and exchange of ideas. The thematic sessions, together with the workshops, and the exhibition area are a rich field for networking and for identifying emerging trends and technologies which will shape the future.

In the framework of a session focussing on “Industrial Solutions on Farming and Food Security”, Mr. Bandry’s speech “Agriculture 4.0: The way forward for the ag. machinery industry in Europe” gave the audience a broad overview of the challenges and the developments the agricultural sector faces today. Technological advancement is now such that agricultural data coming from Precision Farming tools could be optimized and connected to knowledge-based farm production systems, drastically improving productivity. For this to happen, knowledge of smart farming technologies among the users (farmers and advisors) needs to improve, and projects like EU H2020 Smart-AKIS are working to this end.

Mr. Bandry further presented the needs of the ag. machinery sector: trust, developed through tools like the EU Code of Conduct on agricultural data sharing (for more information click HERE), better wireless infrastructure, interoperability and safe and secure data transfer, all of which will prepare the ground for the advent of Artificial Intelligence.
