The Commission has proposed new rules and actions aiming to turn Europe into the global hub for trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI). The combination of the first-ever legal framework on AI and a new Coordinated Plan with Member States will guarantee the safety and fundamental rights of people and businesses, while strengthening AI uptake, investment and innovation across the EU.
New rules on Machinery (check CEMA’s article in this issue - here) will complement this approach by adapting safety rules to increase users' trust in the new, versatile generation of products.
The CEMA ad-hoc group on ‘AI’ will be paying special attention at the interpretation of the ‘High Risk Artificial Intelligence’ definition in order to assess the impact on our industry.
Next steps
The file is currently with European Parliament and the Council for possible amendment and adoption of the European proposals on both Artificial Intelligence and the Machinery Regulation. In parallel till 22 June a public consultation is ongoing on the Commission proposal. The Commission will also continue to collaborate with Member States to implement the actions announced in the Coordinated Plan.
